A Note from the Chairman

3/12/2026 VOL. 1, ISSUE 1

One of the privileges of serving as Chairman of the Flushing Christian Outreach Center is having the opportunity to see the broader picture of what this ministry means to our community. Many people see one part of the work — a food distribution day, a clothing outreach, or a volunteer event. From the board’s perspective, we have the privilege of seeing how all of those pieces come together to serve our neighbors in meaningful ways.

Beginning this year, I will be sharing a short update several times each year to give our supporters a view from the top of the ministry you are helping make possible.

The impact is something our entire community can be proud of.

Just a few short years ago, the Flushing Christian Outreach Center served roughly 250 individuals each month through our food and clothing ministries. Today, that number has grown to nearly 500 neighbors each month. These are families, seniors, and individuals who find themselves in difficult seasons and simply need a helping hand to get through.

Frank Farmer, Chairman of Flushing Christian Outreach Center

Every bag of groceries distributed, every coat shared with someone facing a Michigan winter, and every encouraging conversation with a volunteer happens because people like you believe that our community should care for its neighbors with dignity and compassion.

As the need has grown, so has the vision for the future.

Many of you have heard about our $1.5 million Building Fund initiative, which will allow us to bring our food and clothing ministries together under one roof. Currently, these services operate from separate locations, which creates challenges for both volunteers and the individuals we serve. Bringing them together will allow us to serve more efficiently, create a more welcoming experience for our guests, and prepare the ministry to meet the needs of this community for decades to come.

At the same time, the board is also thinking beyond the immediate future. We believe it is important that the Flushing Christian Outreach Center remain a strong and stable resource for this community for generations. That is why we have begun building the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Endowment Fund, a long-term investment designed to help ensure this ministry continues serving our neighbors well into the future.

But while buildings and long-term planning matter, the heart of this ministry remains simple

People helping people.

Neighbors caring for neighbors.

On behalf of our board, our volunteers, and the hundreds of individuals and families served each month, thank you for being part of this work. Your support allows this ministry to remain a place where people are treated with dignity, compassion, and hope.

I look forward to sharing more of this journey with you in the months ahead.

With gratitude,
Frank Farmer
Chairman
